Non-profit corporations that spend over $750,000 per fiscal year in federal funds are required to have a single audit. Single audits are required by the Federal Government for entities that spend more than $750,000 in federal award money. These audits are submitted to the Federal Audit Clearinghouse (FAC) for distribution to the multiple agencies which fund the entity's expenditures. Single audits require additional examination to assure the agencies that the money was spent according to the rules of the award. The federal government has stringent requirements that are exclusive to not-for profits that are not related to the reporting required by commercial firms.
